In recent years on the island, we have seen how half-ruined houses which have been passed down from generation to generation have been restored, preserving their unique traditional structure. These used to be basic farms in the days when people were involved in cattle raising or agriculture. Very near the properties, there were the farming plots, generally with volcanic sandy soils, and the animal quarters, essential for the daily running of the farm, such as the farmyard, chicken coops, stables, etc. There would windmills or grainmills in all of these villages, and sometimes even flourmills belonging to the wealthier families.
Nowadays, these houses, which have been restored, are to be found in the inland villages where people still make their living from cattle raising and agriculture. Here it is possible to savour the island's tradition and tranquility and you are welcome to enjoy it.
